Former Maharashtra Minister and senior NCP leader Baba Siddique’s murder has erupted a political storm with many political leaders questioning the law and order in the state.
The senior NCP leader was shot dead by three assailants in Mumbai on Saturday. The police are investigating multiple angles behind Baba Siddique’s killing, from contract killing to rivalry. According to NDTV report, the two shooters arrested in the case have admitted their links with the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde informed that apart from the two persons arrested after the incident, the police are searching for the third accused in Baba Siddique’s murder case.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio, visited at Lilavati Hospital after the incident.
NCP President and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the firing incident is unfortunate, condemnable and painful. “I am shocked to learn about his death,” said Pawar.
Who are the two shooters arrested in Baba Siddiqui’s murder case?
The police have arrested two persons accused of the crime. One is Gurmail Singh (23), from Haryana, and the other is Dharamraj Kashyap (19), from Uttar Pradesh. The accused had done a recce of Baba Siddiqui’s house and office premises, and they had been living in Mumbai for one and a half to two months, said Mumbai Police on Sunday.
Congress-turned-BJP leader Ashok Chavan said he had worked with Siddique when both were in the grand old party, adding the news was shocking.
Meanwhile, while offering condolences, Opposition leaders also targeted the Shinde-Fadnavis government over the law and order situation in the state.
Shiv Sena UBT leader and Worli MLA Aaditya Thackeray termed the incident as a complete collapse of administration, law and order. Calling it a very disturbing incident, Shiv Sena UBT’s Priyanka Chaturvedi asked if there is any law and order in Mumbai.
