Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas died at the age of 72 due to prolonged illness

Pankaj Udhas, the highly skilled vocalist who revitalized the world of ghazals, has passed away at the age of 72. Throughout his enduring career, Udhas enchanted audiences with his unique and unforgettable musical style. The Udhas family confirmed his death due to a prolonged illness.

On Monday, Pankaj Udhas’ daughter Nayaab took to Instagram to share a statement that conveyed the sorrowful news of her father’s passing. The statement mentioned, “With a heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness.”

Following Nayaab’s announcement, an outpouring of condolences flooded the comment section from the singer’s devoted fans. Expressing their sympathy, one fan wrote, “May his soul rest in peace.” Another user offered condolences, saying, “I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, stay strong and please accept my condolences.” Yet another user posted, “Deepest Condolences and Prayers.”

According to a family source, Pankaj Udhas passed away at around 11 am at the Breach Candy hospital. His final rites are scheduled to take place on Tuesday. Pankaj is survived by his wife, Farida Udhas, daughters Nayaab and Reva Udhas, as well as his brothers Nirmal and Manhar Udhas, both of whom are also accomplished singers.
